Hosting with a second server. Every site checked every minute.

We host your sites on two servers and keep them in sync, and we only count a site as ready to fail over when both serve the same page. Every site is checked every minute, and the alert goes to the people who built it.

This is for you if

Three signs it is time.

  • Your site lives on a hosting account someone set up years ago, and nobody is sure who has the password.
  • When the site goes down, you hear about it from a customer.
  • Your domains, email and hosting are spread across three companies and three bills.

What changes

Problems found before customers find them

Each site is checked every minute, through its public address and on each server directly. Alerts come to us, not to a ticket queue.

A spare that's actually ready

A standby server only helps if it's in sync. Anything that isn't goes on our list with the next step written in.

The boring parts in one place

Domains, DNS, email, storage, certificates and backups are set up and renewed by us, with the domains registered in your name.

What's included

The usual scope. Every quote says exactly what is in and what is out.

Hosting

  • Two servers kept in sync
  • A content delivery network in front of every site
  • Security certificates installed and renewed
  • Backups stored away from the server
  • Server, firewall and software updates

Monitoring

  • Every site checked every minute
  • Checks on both servers, not just the public address
  • Alerts to the people who built the site
  • Sync checks with the next step written in
  • A running list of server issues and what's being done

Domains, email and storage

  • Domain registration and renewals, in your name
  • DNS managed in one place
  • Business email set-up and mailbox moves
  • Records that help your email reach inboxes, not spam
  • File storage for teams and media

How it runs

The general process, shaped for this kind of job.

  1. 01

    Take stock

We list what you have: domains, DNS, hosting, email, who holds each login and when each one renews. There's often a renewal nobody remembers.

  2. 02

    Move it across

We copy each site to both servers, test it there and switch traffic at a quiet hour, with the old host left running until we're sure.

  3. 03

    Watch it

From then on, every site is checked every minute on both servers. When an alert fires, we fix it or tell you what's going on.

  4. 04

    Keep it current

We apply server and security updates, renew certificates and domains, and keep the backups current.

Questions

Asked on first calls about this.

Do you guarantee uptime?

We don't publish a percentage. We'd rather tell you how it's set up: two servers kept in sync, every site checked every minute on both, and alerts that go to the people who built it. When something does go wrong, you get a note saying what happened and what we changed.

Can you host a site you didn't build?

Usually. We look at it first, because some older sites need updates before they're safe to move. You'll hear what we find before we take it on.

Do we keep ownership of our domains?

Yes. Domains are registered in your name and you get the logins. If you ever move to another host, we help you move and hand over everything.

Is email included?

If you want it. We set up business email, move your existing mailboxes across and add the records that help your messages land in inboxes instead of spam folders. It sits on the same list as your hosting, so there's one place to ask.
